Daddy Stovepipe (1867 - 1963) is one of my favorites from the dawn of recorded sound. A singer, guitarist, and harmonica player, he started out playing a 12-string guitar for mariachi bands in Mexico. As a one-man band, he played on Maxwell Street in Chicago, which was famous at the time for its street musicians. Later, with his singing, jug playing wife, "Mississippi Sarah", they made recordings which, in addition to the music, contained humorous banter between the two.
