Artist's Description
A jazz pioneer, Jelly Roll Morton (1890 - 1941), whose real birthdate remains controversial, started playing for money in his mid-teens. Though his claims to have invented jazz cannot be historically corroborated, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. A collection of his interviews and recordings for the Library of Congress were released in 2005. Not only did it win two Grammy awards, but he was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
