Artist's Description

Raccoons, nocturnal by nature, can be found in both urban and forested areas. Though known for pillaging trash cans, they also frequent gardens for fruits and insects. Native Americans generally considered the raccoon a trickster, similar to coyote. Some portray him as using his cleverness and dexterity to escape from danger or acquire food. The word for "raccoon" was even among the first Powhatan words recorded by English colonists at Jamestown.
